ALEXAOne of many personal virtual assistants available today is the Alexa. This particular assistant will be the focus of our project, where we will program a skill using java for the Alexa to play a quiz game. When prompted by the player, Alexa will ask 20 questions and keep track of the number of answers correct. After 20 questions, Alexa will tell the player their score. Through doing so, our intention is to showcase the capabilities of Personal Virtual Assistants.
The Amazon Alexa is a virtual assistant AI technology. Alexa's capabilities include voice interaction, making lists, music playback, streaming podcasts, playing audiobooks, setting alarms, and providing real time information such as weather, sports, news, and traffic. In addition, an Alexa is capable of controlling smart devices through acting as a home automation system. Also, through installing "skills", users can extend Alexa capabilities, which is what our Demo will show.

Below you will find a number of types of Alexa skills which can be programmed onto the Alexa, a personal virtual assistant, in order to expand its capabilities and further assist the owner.
SMART HOME SKILLSThese skills allow users to use Alexa to control any cloud-connected plugs, lights, camera,s thermostats, switches, cooking appliances, door locks, and many more.
FLASH BRIEFING SKILLSThese skills provide users with easy access to content such as news headlines, RSS feeds, and other short audio and text content.
MUSIC SKILLSThese skills allow users to stream anything in the music catalog to their Alexa.
CUSTOM SKILLSThese skills allow users to create their own voice experience to deliver almost any experience. These include games, health and fitness, shopping, productivity, and education.

THE BEHIND THE SCENESWe are St. Norbert College Computer Science students who created this page for CSCI 225 in the Fall of 2020 in order to present our project about Personal Virtual Assistants. More specifically, the capabilities of the Alexa and "skills" you can code for them.
